Gynecomastia Surgery in Turkey
Due to some hormonal imbalances, some men may experience gynecomastia, or enlarged breast tissue in men, which could pose a psychological nuisance.
But fortunately, it has a solution here at ClinMedica’s contracted hospitals. Gynecomastia patients first undergo the necessary blood examinations to determine the cause of their gynocomastia and how it could be treated. Those who are over 18 years old with no contraindications could undergo a surgery to reduce their breast size.
Gynecomastia operations
Gynecomastia operations are performed under general anaesthesia and and take approximately 1-1.5 hours. Low-grade gynecomastia can be operated under local anaesthesia. The type of operation depends on the degree of gynecomastia.
Liposuction, laser liposuction or VASER is used on patients without excess skin. In liposuction, the operation is performed by entering through 2 holes opened from the sides of the breast. In patients with excess skin and/or tissue, however, the breast tissue is cut through the nipple and undesired tissue is surgically removed.
Post Gynecomastia
After gynecomastia operation silicone tubes called drains are placed in order to prevent blood accumulation in the surgical area. It is advisable that the patient spend at least one day in the hospital after the operation. Patients operated under local anaesthesia may be discharged on the same day.
For 2 months after the operation, excessive movement of the chest muscles should be avoided and a special corset should be worn to provide support during movement and aid with the recovery of the chest area. Usual activity could be resumed within 3-5 days.
Breast enlargement in men is called gynecomastia. It can be seen in approximately 60% of adolescents, regardless of a specific disease. Although gynecomastia can occur as a result of disease or hormone therapy in hormone producing organs, many of them are not caused by a particular disease.
When evaluating a gynecomastia patient, firstly examination and hormonal tests are performed. Patients under 18 who do not have any underlying disease are suitable for the operation.
The type of operation varies according to the degree of gynecomastia. Two types of surgery or combination of these operations, mainly surgical removal of the tissue and liposuction, are applied.
